Draw Your Future Force

December 10 @ 11:00 am - 1:30 pm

Free
Design your future workforce with Patti Dobrowolski of Draw Your Future, the DeBruce Foundation, and the KC Social Innovation Center!

Please join us for lunch on December 10th – – and let’s “Draw Your Future Force!”

We often think of drawing as something that takes innate talent, but this kind of thinking stems from the old adage that drawing is an art form rather than a tool for learning.

We will give you a blank canvas, and open your mind and thinking to accelerate how to get from your current reality to the future workforce you desire – whatever that may be.

Amidst today’s talent crunch inside a nearly full labor market, the reality of a daunting skills gap and the fact that nearly all employers’ imperative is to diversify their workforce and recruit top talent.

We’re here to help you map out just how you’ll get from your current reality to where you want to be.

It will be fun and rewarding, and you’ll walk away with a bold new map of just how you’re going to build your future force.

Tell me more!

Draw Your Future Force is a new twist on Draw Your Future created by Patti Dobrowolski, and brought to KC by the DeBruce Foundation and KC Social Innovation Center.

DeBruce had previously commissioned Patti to co-design an integrated version of Draw Your Future paired with their career-based strength assessment tool – the Agile Work Profiler (AWP) in order to help students achieve better future-based outcomes. At the Innovation Center, through our youth programs, we deployed this pilot model over the summer with great response from our students and industry partners. DeBruce has enlisted us to push this model out directly to schools this spring.

Now, we aim to bring this fun and empowering activity directly to employers so that you, too, can envision (draw) you future by 1) drawing your current reality and 2) the future workforce you desire, then 3) ideating bold ways to get from here to there – to get unstuck.

Why it’s important.

  • We hear the same things from most employers, over and over, so why do they remain so stuck?
  • Diversity
  • Skills gap(s)
  • Recruitment / tight labor market
  • Speed and pace of need/change

Why drawing?

  • We often think of drawing as something that takes innate talent, but this kind of thinking stems from the old adage that drawing is an art form rather than a tool for learning.
  • Researchers, teachers, and artists are starting to see how drawing can positively impact a wide variety of skills and disciplines.
  • Drawing is not an innate gift; it can be taught and developed.
  • Doing so helps people to perceive the world more accurately, remember facts better, and understand their world from a new perspective.
  • Human beings have been drawing for 73,000 years. It’s an inextricable part of what it means to be human (future proof!). We don’t have the strength of chimpanzees because we’ve given up brute strength to manipulate subtle instruments, like hammers, spears, and — later — pens and pencils.
  • Doodlers remember 29% more than those who don’t doodle.
